Our family recently took a road trip to the Mesa Verde, CO area. On our way down we stopped at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. This was a first time visit for my twins, as the last time we had visited was a couple of years before they were born. Sand Dunes are basically unheard of in this part of the country - it was so fun to capture their excitement and wonder at this unusual site!
Tom and Kelsey! They are an adorable couple that got engaged on New Year's Day while skiing the slopes at Monarch. This engagement session was the day after New Year's in the frosty woods of Pitkin, CO. I LOVE taking pictures in the knee-deep snow of the high country!
Happy 2015!! I know a couple of people who's New Year's Day was more fabulous than EVER... because I witnessed them get ENGAGED in the snowy forest of Pitkin, Colorado! Initially, this was a Family Session. It was a surprise to Libby and her family... (oh, and me, I didn't know about this either!)... that the scheduled Family Session arranged by her mom would turn in to an amazing marriage proposal! I have to say that I felt pretty darn privileged to be a witness to this special moment for Libby and David!
I am trying to catch up on here from a busy fall full of family portraits! I feel so blessed to have been able to take pictures of so many adorable and nice families. Here is one of them! Adore this sibling trio!
This stunningly beautiful mom and I go way back... way, way, way back! Well, maybe not that far back... cuz high school really wasn't that long ago for me, right? It's been so much fun reconnecting with her and meeting her absolutely gorgeous family.
Meet Emma. Gorgeous High School Senior. Just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside and with a great head on her shoulders. I've known Emma since she was in about 3rd grade and it was so special for me to be able to take her Senior Portraits. I kept thinking this session would make me tear up... but I was able to hold it together, thankfully! Just what a teenager needs... a crying photographer!! Anyway... most of these were taken in the very colorful Manitou Springs. I love, love, love the vivid colors near the Penny Arcade. Emma is an avid reader and a talented dancer, so towards the end we had the great idea of incorporating the two things together to create some special shots for her mom. Dressed in her tutu and tights, we went to Poor Richard's Bookstore and took some portraits of her there. All in all, it was just a very special morning for me. I hope it was for her, too.

I am so honored to have been asked to take pictures at my brother's wedding earlier this summer. I don't consider myself a "wedding photographer" as this was only the second wedding I've photographed, but I am learning that I absolutely LOVE doing wedding photography... so I might be pursuing this more and more as the years go on.I just love the whole process of it! I think the photographs turned out wonderful... I'm so excited! This had to have been one of the more beautiful weddings I've attended. It was held on a gorgeous property in Boulder, Colorado and had the charm and simplicity of a farm-type wedding. This was such a happy day, not only for the bride and groom, but for so many friends and family. Here's a HUGE congratulations to Max + Leila... thank you for letting me capture your special day!
There is no way I can load all of the beautiful pictures on this site, but here are some of my very favorites!
This is Claire and she is my daughter's very best friend. After photographing my thirteen year-old under these lovely blossoming trees earlier in the day, I knew I had to go back with my other girls that evening (snow was predicted in the forecast and we couldn't wait!). I'm so happy we took this little one along with us, too. I just LOVE her beautiful skin tone next to her pink top in these pictures!
For the past week or so, I have been completely obsessed with the flowering trees in our area. In Colorado Springs, these trees are actually kind or rare. And when you do find one, it doesn't blossom for long! My daughter turned 13 yesterday and I've had it in my stubborn little head that I would find a beautiful tree to take some pictures of her next to. I went on a little search downtown yesterday and found that many of them had already started to shed their blooms.
I have known these siblings since they were pretty much preschool age! So it was so much fun when their mom asked me to take their pictures. Looking for a rural scene, we went up to the Greenland Open Space area and found some great spots. I need to get my own kids up to this area for some photos as it's such a simple yet beautiful space for photography. Cows even wander around the open space... and kindof weave in and out of my camera viewfinder while I take pictures!
Congratulations to Shahrad + Katy, who were recently engaged! These two were wanting something in a natural setting, so we headed up to a barn south of Castle Rock, CO. I knew about Katy's recent yellow VW bug purcahse, so I asked if we could incorporate it in some pics! I love how they turned out! Best wishes in the coming months as you plan your wedding!
My twin girls and I have been wanting to get back to a grove of trees we stumbled upon on a recent hike. Well, let me restate this. I have been wanting to get back to the grove of trees and my girls have been wanting to get back to a fun-looking gymnastics bar that is very randomly constructed in the middle of nowhere near the grove of trees. The trees are actually left over from an old tree nursery that was started over 100 years ago (1907) near Mount Herman Road in Monument, CO. For some reason I was fascinated by it when I stumbled upon it and have been wanting to see how the lined up trees lend themselves to portrait photography. I was thinking it would be sunnier and warmer than it was, but things change rapidly in March (of course!)... so by the time we made it to the trees, it was a bit windy and chilly. My girls had insisted on wearing some springtime outfits, so they got a little cold and eventually covered up with coats. We persevered and got some good shots. I'd love to go back when the sun is glistening through the trees... or after a nice summer rain.
Had some fun with one of my little Valentines after school today! Yes, I paid her in a couple of Dove milk chocolate hearts! She's showing off her brand new spectacles, too!
During this past New Year's holiday, my family and I spent time with extended family in a small Colorado town called Pitkin. I had the awesomely fun opportunity to take family pictures for my aunt and uncle and their three, twenty-something daughters! We had a blast! The snow gets very deep in Pitkin, but we were able to carve out a little spot in the snow near the Pitkin campground for these pictures, only falling in to our knees every so often. I LOVE taking pictures in the snow... I think it's my favorite! This family did an excellent job of picking out colors for their shoot - I just love the teal, cream and black against the snow and green trees.
I heart swimming!
I thought I'd do a quick post on something I love, since it's February! I just love the sport of swimming. My daughter participated in a big swim meet this past weekend and it inspired me to look back through some of my favorite swimming pictures throughout the past year and post them.
There is a special little story that goes along with this family. Gigi was a childhood friend of mine and went to grade school with me in Colorado Springs. At some point in time, she moved and we completely lost touch. A few years ago we became reunited through Facebook (and this is exactly why I love Facebook!) I was so excited when she contacted me to take her family portraits at a park in Denver! I hadn't seen her in over 25 years! It was a fun little reunion... and she has such a beautiful family. Thank You, Gigi and Family!
